The weather - frigid temperatures, snow,
ice, and other weather elements - are a constant cause of
concern during the winter months. Please read the
following carefully to help us ensure that all of our
students are safe when there are weather related school
issues.
Please talk with your children and
establish a family plan for any emergency school
closing. Review this with your children often in the
winter and also at other times. There could be an
early closing due to a non-weather emergency (i.e., a
major mechanical or electrical failure in a
building).
Please take advantage of forecasted
snow or ice and review with your child what to do and
where to go before he/she boards the bus. A note to
the teacher, in the event of an early dismissal, is a
much safer practice than being one of hundreds who
call the school with last minute arrangements that
need to be passed on.
Please make every effort to continue
the PTO phone chain. It is a courtesy to our families
and is obviously dependent on every parent being at
the number provided to the PTO in September. Since
this unlikely, please notify the person who calls you
if you have a change in your contact phone
number.
Check the district's main web page
at http://www.gvsd.org/
for closing information.
Watch GVTV Channel 14 or TV Stations
3, 6, 10, and 29 for closing information.
Please listen to the radio on the
following stations for information on early dismissals
or late arrivals due to inclement weather. WCOJ-1420AM
Coatesville, KYW-1060 AM Philadelphia, WBEB-101.1 FM
Philadelphia. Our school closing emergency number is
855.
Check the Charlestown Elementary
Message Board for opening/closing information
(610-935-4961). This message board will be updated as
often as possible.
Some of our confusion results from students
that have instructions for 3:30 PM dismissal. Please know
that these notes are not applied to the 12:00 PM noon
dismissals. All students are told to go home on the bus
unless we have specific instructions for the 12:00 PM
noon time.
- We appreciate your cooperation and support in
making plans ahead of time to help your children
arrive/leave school safely. By planning ahead with
your child, it will reassure him/her and make them
feel secure knowing plans are in place.
